A look ahead at franchises in 2014
Enemies are raring to go for the last instalment of The Hobbit

Starting early in the year is Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, due for release on New Year’s Day – this is ahead of the October 24th release of Paranormal Activity 5. With such a swiftly expanding franchise, which is doing well at the box office, this could become one that just keeps going.

Sometimes it seems like film studios just want to have fun and having franchise releases near the FilmAttic writer’s birthdays mean that we can enjoy Owen’s with Paranormal Activity 5, Matt’s with RoboCop in February and Nick’s with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in April. FimAttic celebrations all round.

As 2014 comes to an end so will three franchises; first will be The Hobbit which will be completed on the 19th December with the release of The Hobbit: There and Back Again. That will mark the end of Tolkien’s main stories but might not be the last visit to Middle Earth with so much mythology to be adapted from. Just before Christmas, the third of the reboot of St Trinian’s will be released on the 22nd, along with Night at the Museum 3: Brother from Another Mother, released on Boxing Day; the end of the year looks set to be a good time for the family friendly franchises.

Below is a list of franchise films and sequels that we’re looking forward to:
